Festival Fever

Its that time of year again, festival fever has taken over the world and yes its super exciting but whether you're hitting up Tomorrowland, Oxegen or just a small town event you need to be festival fashion ready and we are here to help!

Now everybody knows that wellies are festival must haves but this year we have found something a little different, introducing........

We've spent the last couple of weeks trawling through hundreds of sites to try to find the best places to blog about and one of our absolute favourites is Custom Flutterby they have the most amazing custom denim shorts and converse but for our favourite festival picks we are in love with this pink skull custom shirt for only €20 including p&p!

As always PrettyLittleThing.Com had just what we needed for our denim shorts selection and we just love this bleach denim pair for just €25 and they have these super cool over the knee pink socks that would work perfectly with those Moxie boots!

Dressing for Communions, part two!

After last weeks's successful blog about ideas for dressing for Communions, Confirmations, Christenings and  any other non-wedding, family and church related events we decided to take another look. A reader request suggested that older ladies are somewhat ignored in the fashion world, they tend to be excluded from blogs and magazines and so we were asked to give them a helping hand!

I imagine these lovely ladies are a little over looked as us young ones think they either (a) don't care for new fashion trends  (b )are stuck in their ways and will only wear the styles they've been wearing for the last decade* or (c) they are so fashion forward that they have it sussed already and well, just don't need our help!

(*Not the opinion of Recessionista HQ - we think the older ladies are super stylish and may only use this blog post as a bit of light reading and if we're honest something to laugh about , but we do like to give our opinion anyway).

But we are glad a reader asked us to take a look at some style options for the older lady and its yet another sunny April day here at Recessionista HQ and we are very excited about taking a different look at fashion this week, heres hoping we get it right!

The first look we are loving this week is this fabulous Black dress, from Dorothy Perkins! It is a tailored fit and the berry tie around he waist is a nice little pop of colour! It can be yours for €59.

Team it with a tailored blazer, either black or berry, we recommend this peplum blazer from Isme.com, it really is an investment piece as you can dress up lots of outfits, whether you choose red berry or black!

Sticking with dresses and with Littlewoods Irl this floral (below the knee) number is perfect for the most clever Recessionaista Lovelies as it is only €31! 

Yep you read it right, €31! This is our most cost effective look of the week as you probably have shoes in either black or any of the floral colours in the dress stashed somewhere at the bottom of your wardrobe and the long sleeves mean (if we're luck enough) a nice dry day will reduce the need for a jacket! Sorted!

BooHoo.com have this stunning white chiffon wrap bodysuit for a budget busting €16!

Now don't freak out at the word 'bodysuit' the wrap around effect works well on fuller figures and small frames and the fact it is a bodysuit means when you sit down you won't have to worry about that awkward moment when your trousers lower and your top rises to leaves nothing to the imagination! The sleeves also make this a must have for those of you that are arm-conscious!

The art of dressing for Communions*

*And other church based family events such as Christenings and Confirmations!


So it is a kind-of-sunny-which-makes-us-happy-yet-still-so-cold-we-need-jackets-confusing-weather-Friday here at Recessionista HQ and that can only mean one thing................well okay that's not true, it can mean lots of things but for us it means Summer is coming, which also means there are lots of Summer events that we need to get our wardrobes ready for, from BBQ's to beach parties and festivals to weddings but nothing puts the fear of God into us more than getting asked to a First Holy Communion/Confirmation/Christening. These types of events cause our stylish ways of thinking to go into panic mode, you can't wear anything garish, nothing too sparkly, must be respectable, must be suitable to wear to the church, must be suitable to wear all day (and all night in lots of cases), must look dressy, yet not too dressy...the list goes on!

But fear not! We here at Recessionista HQ have decided to use this blog post as a guide to getting it right, without offending the priest or having the whole community saying "where did she think she was going, a disco?" as they sit gossiping around their cups of tea! 

Outfit no.1 - Inspired by stiletto wearing preggo (but still uber stylish) and Recessionista HQ fav miss KimK! 

The maxi dress. Now don't get me wrong, I love a maxi dress as much as the next person, but for the love of  Louis Vuitton you can choose one that doesn't look like a tent made from your nan's kitchen curtains. Choose carefully, big and bold patterns can be great but then hair, make up, shoes and accessories must be kept minimal and simple, and for curvier ladies, plain maxi dresses always work best!

As you can see Queen Kimmy is a huge fan of the maxi dress, and the best part is it can be dressed down or up to suit the occasion!

The maxi can work in animal print, plain, stripes and much more so it gives you a wide variety of choice, plus you don't have to worry about tanning your legs, or being too cold, or too revealing! Here is what we found:

This gorgeous red racer back dress is from misguided.eu and is available for only €24.75! Team with nude heels and clutch and blazer and keep jewelry simple for a classy look!

For the rock chick in you we've chosen this fab grey maxi dress, with lace opening at the back from 

Fashion Union for around €23. Team it with black heels, leather jacket or blazer and some studded jewelry to complete the look!

If you're feeling a bit more colorful and daring (it is coming into Summer time after all) boohoo.com caught our eye with these two lovelies!

This Black and Rose Print maxi is elegant yet comfortable,

 bright but not over the top and can be yours for €30! 

A slight twist on the regular maxi style this One Shoulder Aztec Maxi had our heads in a spin, bright colours, great length, and will only set you back €22!

For those of you who don't like to wear towering heels (which is sinful in our eyes but each to their own and all that) the Maxi can be a perfect choice for you as you can get away with wearing, dare we say it, FLATS! 

Yes you read it right, its true flat or low heels can work well in this situation as you may be standing all day and even though we say "no pain no gain" we know you don't all agree so there is yet another reason to choose the maxi dress!

Option no.2 Leather (or leather look) Leggings inspired by pretty much every female on the plant!

Okay so like most girls the leather or leather look legging/jean has fast become a staple piece in our wardrobes, but some people might think they aren't suitable for communions/confirmations or christenings but we're here to guide you on the right path!

Everyone from fashion icon Victoria Beckham to Georgia Salpa are rocking the leather look but here is one of our favourties; Irish Fashion Blogger, the ever stylish Suzanne Jackson of SoSueMe.ie

These wet look leggings are so versatile they can be perfected for any event, they're more of an investment piece, without the huge price tag!

Sticking with Caris Closet for now, we love this black peplum jacket for only €35, it really gives the wet look leggings that sophisticated look we need for church events! 

Wet look leggings can be teamed with numerous styles of tops to take them to level you require!

We love this Forever 21 Coral Lace Peplum top, to brighten up the look ( €17.75).  As you all know from our Peplum feature blog a few months ago, peplum is a style that can work for all figures, and this top has half sleeves to cover your upper arm area (which lots of you are self-conscious about).

Try out the military trend with this fabulous Khaki shirt, with studded pockets from Bershka ! 

Available for €29.99 and can easily be worn with boots and statement scarf to relax the look.

This monochrome striped River Island tunic is perfect if your tummy conscious! Its only €25 and can definitely be worn time and time again. 

Although it is slightly more casual than the other two tops we suggested, this can be dressed up with statement jewelry and statement heels!

Option 3 for us is easy peazy, skinny denims, heels, dressy top!

We love these skinnys from H&M for just €39.95! Yet another piece that you can wear time and time again,  changing their look with wedges, heels, boots, casual tee's or dressy blouses!

Set it off with these nude stilettos from PrettyLittleThing.com (€38) and some gold jewelry to match!

Body Chains..Chain Reaction or Unchained Melody?

Okay,okay so the title of this blog is ridiculous and we refuse to pardon the pun as today we are super excited to return to our blog post and bring you all the latest fashion at high street prices!!


But anyway body chains were once for only the most daring of divas to wear but lately they are fast becoming an accessory staple in the wardrobes of everyone from our beloved KimK to the tv star turned fashion designer Whitney Port! Take a peak;

Ciara opts for a long,simple body chain!

In both pictures Rihanna rocks the gold, slim body chain, but our fave is the bottom one, we just love the cross detail!

We love the way Angela Simmons chose a simple body chain,yet it isn't so simple that you can't actually see it! Teaming it with the gold bikini was genius, perfect combination!

Now don't worry, I'm not suggesting you all head out on the town in gold bikinis! Oh no, its far too cold for that nonsense..there are plenty of ways to work this trend without a tanned, toned beach bod! You can dress up any plain tee with a body chain (aka body harness) and teaming a newly glammed up tee with skinny jeans and killer heels can make the perfect outfit for dinner, or a night out, wear it throughout the day with boots to dress up some Autumn outfits!

River Island have this chunky but classy gold and pearl body harness, with gorgeous centre piece to add a little drama! Granted it doesn't do the mannequin justice, but if she wasn't naked it might suit her better!

And after all that if you think you'll conquer this trend, but can't quite choose between baring the bod or decorating a plain tee, then rock like Bey and mix the two together..go on...you know you want to!
