Clueless 90's Vibe

Here we were minding our own business, looking for something to watch on an otherwise dull Wednesday night, when all of a sudden, we saw a tweet. A very exciting tweet (we did mention it was a dull Wednesday right?), a tweet that brought with it dozen's of quotes and flashbacks of outfits, and a quick change of the station to E4 because Clueless was on. Yes we know, we couldn't contain our excitement (and neither could the rest of twitter) either. Phrases like 'buggin' 'wiggin' 'surfing the crimson wave' and 'outty' along with the song 'Rollin With My Homies ' all sprung our minds.

As we started watching the movie we realized we still remembered nearly all of the words and decided that it will forever remain one of our all time favourite chick flicks. We have drooled over Cher Horowitz' fabulous life, wardrobe, hair and house for many years now, but watching tonight gave us some inspo to find and share a few of our currently fashionable 90's re-vamped style favourites, so here they are, enjoy!

Tartan Trending A/W13

I don't know about you lot but here at Recessionista HQ we are getting a wee bit excited for all things Autumn/Winter 2013! We love Summer but lets be honest there is something magical about the latter half of the year; the leaves turn golden and fall to the ground, we get to wear chunky knit dresses and jumpers, drink hot choc, steal socks from our other half (not because they're actually warmer but for some reason they make us feel more cosy), buy more scarves than we could need in a life time, plan our Halloween costumes and get prematurely excited for Christmas (as if it's ever too early)!

Become the Queen of the Rom Com - Style Wise Anyway!

Like many of us mere mortals, some celebs have their style staple and often can be the LBD (little black dress). No one is more famous for keeping it simple on the red carpet than our favourite F.R.I.E.N.D.S actress, the effortlessly stylish, always classy Miss.Jennifer Aniston!

Jen (we like to think we know such a legend and so we refer to her as Jen) is known for her roles in lots of comedy blockbusters such as The Break Up, Horrible Bosses, The Bounty Hunter, Rumour Has It, Bruce Almighty and many many more. Her comedic abilities make her a lovable character and her honesty, down to earth and girl-next-door attitude have allowed her to win the hearts of millions of people all over the world.

She has long been a style icon for young women, going right back to the phenomenon hairstyle that was 'The Rachel' from her early role in hit sit-com 'F.R.I.E.N.D.S'.

Picture: Google Images (www.beautifulwithbrains.com)

Jen's role sees her play a stripper enlisted to play the 'mom' in a fake family to help smuggle a huge shipment of drugs across the border from Mexico to the U.S. 'We're The Millers' premiered in London last night and it was Miss.Aniston's dress that caught the world's attention!

Jen shied away from her usually classy, plain one colour frock for this fun, girly Dior dress and the world took note!

She looks absolutely stunning, great to see her embracing patterns and bright colours in the Summer time!

We've decided to try find some similar style dresses so we can steal her much loved style!

All of these dresses are from Irish fashion site iClothing.ie

The 'skater' style dress really is flattering on most shapes, as it A lines from the waist, just enough to hide those unwanted lumps and bumps and we love them! If you're not quite daring enough to wear the any of the bright and busy patterns, we chose a couple of more simple options too (from iClothing.ie).

Team any of these dresses with nude or navy heels and stick to neutral make up colours to keep this look sophisticated.

Barratts Shoes £28 (approx €33)

Barratts £28 (approx €33)

TopShop £90 (approx €105)

If you're like us and love all things Jennifer then be sure to check out this link to her 'Inside the Actors Studio' interview, it is a really great insight into her career and personality!

An Empire State of Fashion

Yesterday our day appeared to have a theme running through it. A theme we quite enjoyed so we decided to share it with you.

It all began when we were choosing our morning song selection (which is fast becoming a bit of a morning ritual for us) and we stumbled across one of our all time favourite songs from two of the most stylish people in the world, Alicia Keys and Jay-Z, 'Empire State of Mind' . This song is clearly all about New York City, the people, the lifestyle, the fashion, the dreams and is quite a good one to set you on a positive path for the day.

(Picture: Google Images - www.favim.com)

Anyway, various songs relating to New York were heard on the radio throughout the day, and it was the setting for a couple of TV ads and shows that were on, but then, one of the best chick flicks of all time, 'Maid in Manhattan' was on E4 and we thought Hallelujah! It's a sign! So we made a huge cuppa, grabbed a box of maltesers and settled down on the couch ready to watch the always beautiful (and multi talented) Jennifer Lopez do her thing as a Manhattan Maid, who falls in love with a candidate running for senate!
(picture: google images - www.ateonsoft.com)

It has long been one of our favourite chick flicks for many reasons: its set in Manhattan, it is very funny and light hearted, and it stars our idol, Jennifer Lopez. Ralph Fiennes (although a bit too old for us) is easy on the eyes too! Since we were little girls playing dress up in our mother's high heels one of our all time favourite movie moments is when JLo walks into the benefit gala wearing THAT dress!
